FTP is working in Caster2! finally! Now for dropbox... i did not have this many problems with earlier versions of IOS.... I guess it's because i used built-in stuff i assumed worked rather than porting a tried and true library... now to figure out the new dropbox sdk... or at least a way to implement it without screwing up the structure of Caster2.... If I want to keep bugs down, I have to be strict with the design...
So, I've been working on the publish stuff. I'm having the worst time getting it all to work stablely..Email and twitter work fine, Dropbox and FTP are consistently borked. The new Dropbox SDK isnt working very smoothly for me. and i've swapped between FTP libraries like 10 times so far trying to find one that works well. I'm having nothing but problems with the publishing...
VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!
I've been working on making Caster2 as smooth as silk... no bugs on any devices, no weirdness, NO CRASHING, and an overall beautiful experience... as was originally intended. As my testers suggest enhancements and feature tweaks, i'm getting them knocked out. Here's to a flawless release...
I've completed the publishing engine. all that's left is the actual publishers. the only bug left is in the audio import functionality...iPad, iPhone, and iPod are all working great!
Caster 2 is almost done! mp3 working via lame, m4a/alac, and wav are all working beautifully. All that's left is ftp and dropbox publishing. mp3 encode seems a bit slow to me, but, it works.
the clip mixer is getting close to being done... Caster2 will allow any number of clips to be mixed together simultaneously! --- not just 4 or 8 or 16 tracks, but, limitless

Making great progress Screenshot of Caster2 -- Media recording, processing, and clip management is working beautifully! looking for a good FTP library. (maybe SFTP/SSH too) ..... It would be good if I can find something that works with all servers. I may just port an existing FTP client into an OSX library. I will probably drop ogg encoding and only do m4a and mp3.
I hope this gui will be more intuitive.
If everything goes as smoothly as it has been going, I'll be releasing this version for iOS and OSX around the February/March time-frame. This isn't a release commitment, just a friendly FYI.
Video probably wont be ready in the first release, but It is built into the design, so, it is coming.
This is as complete rewrite of Caster. This means it will be a lot more stable and the existing problems with Caster will be gone (replaced with a whole new set of problems!) This time, I know exactly which direction I need to go with the app, and it's written to be easily expandable.
So, recently, Caster 0.7.1 was released to fix publishing errors (due to IOS5 differences) .. most of these problems have been fixed. One remaining known issue is a bug that causes the FTP client to crash when sending a large file. (i think i've had a bug like this before)
Either way, I'm working on getting that out ASAP.
I'm also working on Caster version 1.0, which is pretty much a from-scratch re-write.I'm making great progress and it's super-stable out of the box. Caster 1.x+ will also be available for OSX and should be released soon after or even along-side of the IOS version. Caster 1.x will support audio and video podcasts and publish to FTP, dropbox, and youtube to start.
ETA for a 1.0 release is Spring 2012
